Howard Amongst Least Expensive MPs
Mr Howard spent less than most MPs
26 October 2007

Michael Howard is once again amongst the least expensive Members of Parliament.

Mr Howard's level of expenditure means he is amongst the 100 least expensive Members of Parliament; last year Mr Howard's claim on expenses and allowances

was only 65 percent of that claimed by the biggest spender - Labour's Shahid Malik, who managed to spend a massive £185,421.

Records of MPs allowances expenditure, published by the House of Commons yesterday, show that last year Mr Howard spent £120,204 in pursuing his duties as the Member of Parliament for Folkestone and Hythe.

The largest part of expenditure, £81,187, went on staffing costs. Mr Howard employs staff to help constituents in difficulty, prepare for Parliamentary debates and public appearances, and scrutinise Government activity and the work of public bodies serving Folkestone and Hythe.

Full details of MPs' claims on allowances can be found on the Parliamentary website, here.

For the same figures, ranked according to the total amount spent, visit The Daily Telegraph's website, here.
