A reflective bollard, used to warn road users, had been removed.
This week Kent County Council said it would consider a compensation claim from Mr Jessop after he struck the pavement, badly damaging his bike – and himself.
Michael Howard said:
‘Mr Jessop wrote to me after he had been injured and his bike had been damaged, having collided with the pavement which extends out into Lower Sandgate Road.
‘Without a warning bollard, and extending much further into the road than elsewhere, it is quite clear that there is a substantial danger of this happening to someone else. My constituent was lucky that he always wears a cycle helmet and did not fall into the line of traffic behind him.
‘I am glad that the council are now replacing the bollard, and very much hope that Mr Jessop will be properly compensated.’
